15th episode is a fresh miscellaneous musical journey: from house, funk, rap, r&b to jazz, folk, pop, world there's certainly something for everyone.
Highlights from this week’s episode:
A songwriter with killer opening lines has her shit together: “I’m well aware of what the night’s made of/And I’m comin’ for you like a hawk for the dove.” Evocative, well-stressed, and horny, “Hawk for the Dove” is the kind of song Amanda Shires writes all the time.
“Recordar é viver”, is the 1st volume of an anthology dedicated to the one and only Pedro Lima, the people's voice of São Tomé. “Ami Cu Manu Mu,” with its bright, melodic lines and incessant puxa rhythm (a mutation of Angolan rebita) has a banquet of sounds: the back-and-forth between Lima and backing vocalists, the delirious interweaving patterns laid down by guitarists.
Regularly hailed as the UK’s answer to Herbie Hancock, Kaidi Tatham (photo) returns with a crop of jazz-dance tracks exploring a wide range of rhythms and tempos. The title track, “Galaxy” (Upbeat Mix) featuring guest vocals from Lola Vialet, utilizes a pointed bassline, featuring an infectious tapestry of percussion.
On the third installment in Waajeed’s Acts of Love series, the Detroit mainstay is in top form, with possibly his most impressive and functional yet emotionally charged, dance-focused release yet. The EP’s most reflective moment is “Sober”, with soothing vocal harmonies and glistening sustained chords atop a tight kick and a dusty flying hi-hat.
